Lovers of rock-n-roll, biker leather, and rebellious wardrobes: meet The Cast (if you haven’t already.) This edgy, I-don’t-give-a-damn shop, located fittingly in NYC’s Lower East Side, boasts a collection vintage, denim, and custom leather jackets that will make your mama cringe while your inner rock-diva rages with delight. The Cast also boasts its own exclusive line, Bitch Club by The Cast. The edgy tees that tout “Bitch Club,” coupled with their leathers are so fashion savvy that top stylists and celebs like Madonna have been seen sporting the line.
“One of the grittiest and badass boutiques has found its home on New York’s Lower East Side. The Cast is a rock-n-roll inspired retail shop and clothing line featuring the best in leather, denim & vintage. For Co-Owners Chuck Guarino and Elisa Maldonado, The Cast was born out of their love for rock-n-roll.” -Chuck Guarino and Elisa Maldonado
2+7: What kind of brands do you carry/have you carried?
The Cast: Our lines, Bitch Club and The Cast. Also, our 3 favorite jewelry lines Bevel, Ayaki Nashi, and Bird Ov Prey.
2+7: What brands do you want to carry in the future?
TC: I would have to say both Sex Trash NYC (lingerie) and Horse + Nail (leather handbags).
2+7: What do you look for when merchandising/choosing designers?
TC: Definitely not the boat shoe with cute shorts kind of look. Its gotta be badass. About 50% of our shop is vintage clothing, boots, and accessories. So if we can pair things up with our own clothing, then it gets the thumbs up.
2+7: Who is your customer?
TC: The Cast has also developed an international following. Known for their custom leather creations all made in New York City, customers have come from as far as Japan to create their own distinctive leather piece. Whether it’s a 20-year old rock-n-roller looking for a white leather vest or a middle-aged financier after a traditional motorcycle jacket, The Cast is the go-to destination offering amazing fits and buttery soft, leather of unparalleled quality. The Cast allows customers to personalize the details from color and texture to buttons, zippers, buckles and belts; each can all be handpicked and made to order.
2+7: Advice for new designers to stand out to store buyers/owners?
TC: Hang on to your night job a little longer. Ha. It’s a tough market to crack, but with a lot of drive and support from your friends, and a few eye-opener pieces…you can shake things up sooner than you think.
